Flow Power (majority owned by OPTrust, Canadian pension fund) secures foundational offtake from new major hybrid renewables project, Blind Creek Solar Farm and Battery
Innovative renewable energy retailer, Flow Power, has signed a foundational offtake agreement with clean energy fund manager and developer, Octopus Australia, for the upcoming Blind Creek Solar Farm and Battery project.
The agreement marks a significant collaboration between two of Australia’s most progressive renewable energy market leaders, reinforcing a shared mission to deliver cost-efficient, firmed renewables for Australia’s grid.
The announcement follows Octopus Australia’s financial close on the $900 million Blind Creek Solar Farm and Battery project in Bungendore, NSW. The next-generation hybrid solar and battery project will combine 300 MW of solar with a 243 MW/486 MWh battery, ensuring more clean energy can be generated, stored and delivered to the grid during evening peaks.
Flow Power’s offtake agreement serves as an anchor for Blind Creek, helping underpin the project and bring an innovative firmed offtake model to the market. Byron Serjeantson, COO & CFO of Flow Power, noted that the foundational partnership reflects the strong alignment between the two organisations.
“Flow Power and Octopus Australia share a vision for the role of new technologies in driving a cleaner and more flexible energy system. Blind Creek represents the next generation of renewable energy projects, combining smart technology, firmer supply for customers, and regenerative agriculture. We’re proud to be a foundational partner, helping bring this impressive project to life,” said Serjeantson.
“The Octopus Australia team have been fantastic to work with, and we see them as a well-aligned partner supporting us to continue delivering reliable renewables to homes and businesses across Australia.”
Octopus Australia Co-MD, Renewables, Sonia Teitel, said Flow Power’s early commitment played a meaningful role in supporting the project’s development.
“Flow Power’s leadership in Australia’s renewable energy market established it as a natural partner for Blind Creek and Octopus Australia in the longer term,” she said. “From the outset, our teams have been aligned on building a cleaner energy future grounded in innovation and customer value. We’re looking forward to working together on this project that sets a new benchmark for firmed renewables in Australia.”
Developed in close partnership with local landholders, Blind Creek is designed as a true agri-solar model, allowing sheep grazing to continue across the site while improving land productivity. Once operational, the project will generate up to 300 MW of clean electricity – enough to power more than 120,000 homes. This reduction in emissions is equivalent to taking 200,000 cars off the road every year.
The project’s DC-coupled design and technology, allows energy to flow directly from the solar array into the battery, represents the next evolution of hybrid renewable systems. This design reduces losses, improves efficiency, and maximises the support the project can provide for the grid during high-demand periods.
Construction is now underway, with up to 300 jobs created by the project at its peak, and ongoing employment opportunities available once operational. Octopus Australia is continuing its collaboration with EPC contractor GRS and Wärtsilä Energy Storage as the battery system supplier.
“We understand how critical it is to deliver firmed, reliable and affordable renewable energy,” said Sonia Teitel. “Blind Creek is the kind of next generation project Australia’s market needs, and Flow Power’s foundational partnership is key to making that possible. We’re thrilled to be working together to bring more scalable, future-ready renewable projects to market.”
Flow Power’s involvement further strengthens its growing portfolio of long-term renewable energy partnerships and built, owned and operated projects, underpinning its mission to create Australia’s renewable energy future for homes and businesses.

About Octopus Australia
Octopus Australia is an energy fund manager and developer harnessing capital and expertise to accelerate the energy transition, with a portfolio and pipeline of over $16 billion across wind, solar and battery storage projects.
Octopus Australia is more than just an energy infrastructure player: it takes an AI data and technology driven approach to constructing an energy portfolio where it ‘stacks’ wind, solar and large batteries into the one energy generation portfolio.
The term “stacking” refers to the integration of multiple renewable energy sources along with batteries to create a reliable, efficient and sustainable generation system.
The complementary energy generation profiles of wind, solar and battery storage provide a supply of energy that competes with baseload coal and gas in Australia. This maximises grid usage and providing upside returns, while improving grid resilience by reducing intermittency. Octopus Australia’s stacked portfolio of assets has other benefits such as cost synergies and a streamlined permitting process, especially in Australia where there are favourable regulatory framework and political settings.
Octopus Australia’s team of over 65 highly skilled professionals across Melbourne and Sydney have a unique blend of skills and deep industry expertise across investment, energy markets, development, construction, grid, engineering, stakeholder and community engagement, and legal. This allows them to manage projects across their entire lifecycle and to construct and operate a large integrated energy portfolio. Visit: octopusaustralia.com.au/
